Employment &Training Services Program
Mission Statement
The OFIFC-GREAT Initiative (O-GI) is part of the Government of Canada’s Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy (AHRDS), which is designed to help Aboriginal people prepare for, obtain and keep jobs.Employment Units, such as your TBIFC, deliver unique and comprehensive programs designed to promote the placement of skilled Aboriginals and to recruit employers seeking skilled workforce within the various business sectors across Canada.
The Employment Unit is a bridge between the job seeker and the employer in providing a holistic, integrated and principled approach to the solution of the employment (career), education and training problems of Aboriginal people. As an integral part of the Friendship Centre, the Employment Unit will assist urban Aboriginal people in the following: a personalized step by step pathway to personal, professional and career development, which strikes a balance between cultural integrity and employability.
The Employment Unit wishes to empower urban Aboriginal people in preparing for and finding employment; it provides the security and sensitivity necessary to assist them, and keeps pace with the constant changes occurring in the labor market.

Employment Services
The employment services are available to any individual who enters any of O-GI’s Employment Units. Services include- intake

- training or action plan development
- referrals
Employment & Training Programs
O-GI provides eligible individuals with intervention services aimed at helping clients secure meaningful employment. Services include- employment supports
- self-employment assistance
- job-creation partnerships
- targeted wage subsidies
- skill enhancement
- training purchase
- mobility assistance
Client Eligibility
O-GI provides employment and training to the following individuals:- Non-Status individuals who do not consider themselves Metis or have no affiliation to a First Nation or Inuit Community
- Status Indians who have no connection to a band (have status but are affiliated members of a band and who are generally listed on the Indian and Northern Affairs Canada’s Indian Registry).
- Status or Non-Status out of province individuals.
Youth Programs
The youth program provides various employer and client based services to O-GI eligible youth aged 15 – 29 (30 id disabled). The programs offered include
