The Statement of Prime Purpose

The Statement of Prime Purpose articulates the goals and aspirations of the Métis Nation of Ontario. These values and principles are the fundamental building blocks that set out the core values of the Métis Nation. The MNO operates in accordance with a developing constitution, which includes the Statement of Prime Purpose, the MNO Secretariat by-laws, the MNO Electoral Code, the MNO Community Charter Agreements, and the Métis Nation Rules of Order. The Métis Nation of Ontario supports the development of institutions of self-government for the Métis and advocates their distinct interests.

Regional Program Delivery

MNOTI is committed to offering local service delivery and has nine regional Resource Centres across the Province. Centres are located in Fort Frances, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Midland, North Bay, Ottawa, Toronto, and Hamilton. These centres invite people to come in and use the internet, check out our job boards, prepare a resume, research genealogy and review employment and training resources. In addition, there is help available for employment planning and training needs.

MNOTI has also established several satellite locations in order to improve service delivery. For location information contact the Ottawa regional office. Please note: if you are not from the immediate area a counselor will arrange to meet with you at your desired location.

Métis Employability Program

Helps clients develop skills that prepare them for the job market. Can include life skills, job readiness, and literacy and upgrading classes.

Metis Self-Employment

A program designed to foster the entrepreneurial spirit of the Metis people. Assistance can include: business plan development, how to start a small business, marketing, accounting and more.

Metis Training Strategies

Supports the development of labour market strategies for the Metis community in Ontario. For Metis groups ready to contribute to training for Metis people at a regional or provincial level.

Metis Culture-Based Economic Development

MNOTI provides assistance to support economic self-determination in cultural industries (arts and related careers). Must lead to successful self-employment or launch a successful career. For more information or grant requirements please call the office.

Summer Career Placement

SCP is a wage subsidy program designed for Metis students seeking summer employment opportunities.

Metis Wage Subsidy

A six month subsidy for employers to provide on the job training experience for Metis people.

Metis Training Purchases

Purchase of training from various institutions.

  • For clients who are ready to work but need specialized training
  • Training must be directly related to an employment goal.

Metis Disabilities Support

To provide the tools necessary to assist persons with disabilities to secure and complete training and/or employment.

Metis Youth Programs

To assist youth through internships, on the job training & community service projects.

Metis Job Creation

Provides employment experience to benefit clients, the community and/or the local economy.

Metis Mobility

Assist individuals to secure employment outside their immediate residency.

Metis Nation of Ontario Student Bursary Program

The MSBP helps Metis pursuing education attain financial assistance in pursuit of vocational goals and post-secondary education. In partnership with various Ontario colleges and universities, Human Resources Development Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Education & Training, the MNO has established Endowment Awards for Metis Students in 32 Ontario post-secondary institutions under the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund. Each award is backed by a trust fund that will allow these awards to be available annually. These awards have been completely established at Universities and Colleges across Ontario. Metis Nation of Ontario Training Initiatives (MNOTI) is the employment and training delivery branch of the Metis Nation of Ontario (MNO). Since 1994, the MNO has worked for the rights of Metis in the province. The MNO’s Statement of Prime Purpose identifies providing education and employment opportunities as a priority. Through a partnership with Human Resources Development Canada, the MNO is able to offer a variety of programs and services in an effort to further this goal.

MNOTI is committed to promoting Metis economic self-suffiency through academic upgrading, on the job training and community projects.
